We’re about two weeks into Marvel’s Phase 3, which began with “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 3. We’ve had the slate for months, and it’s probably not gonna change, right?
A few hours ago, Disney and Marvel announced a new movie for Marvel’s Phase 3: “Ant-Man and The Wasp”, coming in July 2018. Starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly as the title characters, this movie will finally be the introduction to The Wasp (since Lilly’s pregnancy is keeping her from appearing much in “Captain America: Civil War”). That’s probably why they’re making this movie – well, that and the huge success of the first “Ant-Man”.
My theory for a plot will be about the Earth’s Tiniest Heroes protecting the Earth from Psycho-Man, a dictator of a system of worlds within the Microverse (the “quantum realm” Scott visited in the first “Ant-Man”. They synopsis will probably be that Psycho-Man has created his own growing technology (he’s a technocratic villain, so this makes sense) and use it to attempt to conquer the Macroverse (the earth we live on). They’ll beat him back, and then follow him into his own realm to stop him from returning and free his people from his tyrannical reign. When they get there, the twist will be revealed: he created his shrinking technology from reverse-engineering the original Wasp suit, and will have Janet van Dyne (the original Wasp and Hope’s mother) held captive. They’ll beat him, save Janet, and return to the Macroverse to be happy.
Of course, not everything will be happy. Thinking about this movie, one possibility that I’ve been playing around with in my head is killing off Hank. We all know that it has to happen sometime, but I think that this would be a good place to do it. It would probably go like this: Scott and Hope have been captured. Hank has no idea what to do, watching them being taken down. He looks around and sees an experimental suit (that was introduced earlier in the movie). Next thing we know, Psycho’s soldiers are going down one by one by an unseen force. When they’re all down, Hank returns to normal size and takes off his helmet to show them who it is, then he gets shot by one of the soldiers, who’s still alive/conscious. He collapses, and, if they have her at that point, will die in Janet’s arms. If Janet hasn’t been saved, then Hope. This will be right before the climax of the movie. Of course, this isn’t for sure, and honestly far from likely, but it may happen.
Another possible twist is that, since entering the Microverse, Janet has become the villainous Red Queen, the supervillain identity of Hope in the comics. With Hope definitely not becoming a villain any time soon, this could be a sort of role reversal. She’ll be using Psycho as a puppet, and be the true villain of the movie. I think this could be pretty cool, and actually a little more likely if they choose to go the Psycho Man route.
But who is Psycho-Man exactly? He comes from the micro-world of Tamm, and leads a technocratic dictatorship. His most-used gadget is a machine that can control the emotions of people. Thinking about how much most people are ruled by their emotions, this could make him a powerful foe indeed, able to make someone angry enough to turn against their friends or frightened enough to curl up into a ball.
So what do you guys think of this new announcement? How about my plot synopsis? Will Hank die? Will Janet become the Red Queen? Tell me in the comments!
